Important Update: Guitar and Bass is no being produced by the publisher.

As you can probably guess from its name, the Guitar and Bass course offers lessons for both regular guitar and the bass guitar. If you purchase either other their downloadable courses, you'll get access to the other one for free. Don't let the low price fool you though - this is one of the better inexpensive ways to get started on the guitar that are out there.

Guitar and Bass is a good product for a decent price. Both the guitar and bass guitar courses each contain 50+ lessons. The guitar lessons teach a wide variety of necessary guitar techniques, chords, styles, and does so in a unique and interactive way. On their site, they have a demo lesson which we encourage you to check out if you want to see it works.

You can choose to get the Guitar and Bass course as an internet download or as a professionally packaged cd-rom. We recommend the internet version as it gives you access to both the regular guitar and bass guitar courses, costs less as you don't have to pay for shipping, and also comes with several great software bonuses.

Here are a few actual screenshots from the Guitar and Bass course.

Features

The Guitar and Bass lesson consists of more than fifty interactive tutorial modules that progressively build upon each other.

Many of these lessons have full band, high-quality audio jam tracks built right in. You can choose to play along with or without guitar accompaniment. A nice features is that you don't have to rummage around your computer for a bunch of folders and files to get the video and audio files you need for each lesson as they are conveniently built right into the browser-based lesson tutorials. (A huge plus!) I'll mention here that that the jam tracks are super high quality and totally rock! The videos for the lessons aren't quite so great (They are short and not very clear). Also built into the lesson modules is a drum machine which you can set to various tempos and rhythms, as well as a capable guitar tuner.

If you decide to get the online version, you can choose to download the files onto your PC so you won't have to be connected to the web while you work on your lessons. The process of downloading the files is a bit tedious we'll admit, but the option is definitely nice to have.

Certainly, the Guitar and Bass course isn't near as comprehensive as lots of the guitar courses we mention, but it's still a pretty decent deal. The lack of good video lessons also handicap it's potential. Still, when used as a supplement to a good video course Guitar and Bass has its place.

Support

The support options available from Guitar and Bass are plentiful. They have a dedicated support email address, phone and fax numbers, as well as their physical address posted on their site. However, we're not sure exactly why you'd need to make use of them.

Ease of Use

Guitar and Bass's software was very easy to learn and worked quite well in our testing. The web-based version of Bass and Guitar works on both PCs and Macs, but note that the shipped CD version of Bass and Guitar's lessons are not compatible with Mac computers.

With the CD version that I tested there were no setup or installation problems whatsoever.

Guarantee

Bass and Guitar's warranty is one the best we've seen for instrument learning software. It has a Lifetime Guarantee which is very impressive.

Price

The low price and value of Bass and Guitar is also quite good. The other courses that would be comparable in cost are Jamplay and Jamorama . As the course sells from Australia, the currency difference really works to your advantage if you are from the UK, USA, or Canada. The download version sells for $27 AUD, which only works out to just over $25 USD, less than what you would pay for a single 30-minute private lesson.

Conclusion

If you want a low cost, high value guitar course, are motivated, and want to get up and running on the guitar as quickly as possible, you may really like Guitar and Bass.
